Growing in Confidence

Confidence is certainly something that many people will naturally develop across their legal journey however there are things you can consciously do in order to improve your confidence.
1. Find yourself a real-life model. There is a lot to be learned from observing the mannerisms of a friend or relative you consider to be confident. E.g. many 'confident' people will maintain good eye contact and posture, and often refer to people directly by their name.
2. Positive thinking! Be positive in both yourself and your outlook on the world. For instance, if someone achieves their goal or is particularly successful at something, be the first to congratulate them. Equally, adopting a 'can do' attitude is the biggest step towards a more confident you!
3. Do something that scares you everyday. If you are not confident at public speaking, join a politics/debating/mooting society and raise one argument per session. If you are not confident at writing, attend a skills class or participate in a writing competition. It need not be a big thing, you could just say hello to a stranger; but do something that scares you.
Of course, there are plenty more hints and tips. Let me know what works for you?!
